Husky Dog Off Leash Training. The Trick! Helpful for any dog
The video
A husky owner shares one trick for off-leash training. Unlike most videos in this category, it's from someone who regularly hikes off leash with his huskies. The description puts it bluntly: "The Siberian Husky is notorious for running off and disobeying commands. I bet 70 to 80% of them therefore is never off leash. And that's a pity!"
Meet the dog and the channel
Han Verdi Husky & RV is a small channel, with about 9,300 subscribers when we checked in November 2026. It's about traveling and hiking with huskies in a camper. The description mentions the channel's huskies, Ziva and Dyson, and links to a tribute to "my late white Husky Dyson," along with other videos like "8 Cheerful Facts" about the breed and a husky lost in a beaver hole. We couldn't confirm the owner's full name from a primary source, so we've left it out.
How it blew up
The video went up on February 5, 2020, and had about 105,000 views when we checked in November 2026. That's more than ten times the channel's subscriber count, so it was clearly found through search. "Husky off leash" is a common search, with very few good answers. We didn't find any press coverage.
Our take: we're more cautious than this video. For most huskies, off-leash should mean fenced areas only. But the training logic here is solid, and it's refreshing to see an owner who has actually done it.
The husky science behind it
Many breed clubs and rescues advise never letting a husky off leash in an unfenced area. That isn't because huskies can't learn recall. It's because their urge to run is so strong. They were bred to run long distances, often far from their people, and they have a powerful chase instinct. Even a husky with good recall can be gone before you call it, if a deer goes by. Off-leash huskies exist, but it takes a lot of training, the right dog and the right place.
A practical tip
Build recall on a long line (a 10- to 15-meter lead) before you ever unclip in open country. Make "come" the best-paid cue you have, with real meat as the reward, and never call your husky for something it dislikes. Know your local leash laws and wildlife, and be honest about your particular dog. Some huskies should just stay on leash.
